CHANGING LIVES – Lamees
Lamees Khawaja is a 26-year-old Palestinian, whose family
immigrated to Saudi Arabia due to political unrest in Palestine. Her father, an Arabic teacher,
passed away when Lamees was very young. The second youngest from a family of seven, Lamees loved
the English language. When the family returned to Palestine 10 years back, she completed her
undergraduate degree in English Language and Literature, from Al-Quds University. After
graduation, she initially worked as a translator and interpreter and then started working as an
English teacher. Lamees’s passion for learning and her desire to continue her post graduate
studies never ceased. Unable to pay for her studies, she applied for the Qatar Scholarship and
was one of the first batch of 119 students who were awarded a scholarship in the Master of Arts
in Teaching.
