CHANGING LIVES – Rafat
Rafat Kasabeh from Irbid, Jordan, had a passion for photography
and taught himself photography through YouTube tutorials.
He always wanted to study photography and filmmaking professionally but could not afford to.
After applying for the Al Fakhoora scholarship, he was able to fulfil his dreams and go on to
study at the SAE Institute Jordan for Creative Media Education.
After a three-year study, he graduated in 2019 from the SAE Institute, who also connected him to
‘Think for Media’ in Amman, Jordan, where he is the Director of Photography and works with the
likes of BBC, and NBC, and is currently working on a popular medical programme called ‘7Drs’.
To Rafat, media production is like an art, and it is important to him because it helps to convey
messages to a wider audience. In his graduate project, he chose to produce a documentary about
child labour, a subject area he would like to document more in the future. He enjoyed being able
to give a voice to the voiceless, and those who are less fortunate in his community.
.
The scholarship was a life-changing opportunity which I am so grateful for. I waited years for
it, and it changed my life explained Rafat.

diversify your experiences through volunteering. When you’re in a different community, you face
a lot of challenges. Volunteering was a new opportunity for me, and it was a great experience.
