Gender-sensitive Global Citizenship and Life Skills Education for Youth
– A project of Reach Out To Asia (ROTA)
Country: Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Indonesia, Nepal, and Pakistan
The project aims to empower the youth, especially girls, socially and economically. Youth
(between the ages of 14 and19 years) in Ivory Coast, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Indonesia, Nepal, and
Pakistan are empowered by equipping them with gender-sensitive, global citizenship skills and
behaviours like financial literacy, creativity, critical thinking, problem-solving, cooperation,
negotiation, decision-making, financial-management, resilience, communication, respect for
diversity, and empathy. Improved life skills and citizenship behaviours will contribute to
individual well-being and better decision-making and a more inclusive and sustainable space for
youth. The Project developed a context-specific training manual for educators, including
selected content, active learning pedagogies, and pathways for implementation in formal and
non-formal learning environments. National authorities are also educated on the importance of
including gender-sensitive life skills and global citizenship education components in national
curricula. The Project targets 72,000 total beneficiaries, with a focus on girls, over 3 years
(2021-2023).
