RAVEENA

Monica’s fortunes changed when Raveena, a field co-ordinator for Educate Girls, knocked on her door, while trying to identify out-of-school children in the area. “Most people battle great poverty in these communities and education is the last thing on their minds. However, many impoverished families still send their boys to school, while girls are made to do the housework,” said Raveena.

Over time, Raveena encouraged Monica’s mother to see the importance of an education and got Monica enrolled through the Educate Girls project. “When my mother and grandmother go to the market, I am taken along because I can count the money for them. When I grow up, I want to be a teacher,” said Monica.
